Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council is a non-profit organization formed by the Native American Tribes of Wisconsin. We serve all Wisconsin tribes by providing administration of grant-funded programs either directly or with sub grants. Programs range from Child and Maternal services to Education to Disability and Elder benefits. Our Mission is: To Enhance the Quality of Life for all Native People.
The Finance Manager maximizes the return on financial assets by maintaining and revising financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems; ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions; has a thorough understanding and working experience of jurisdictional taxation; has a thorough understanding and working experience of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); oversees cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/payable, payroll and risk management. Responsibilities include the management and supervision of the Accounting staff, and any other designated staff. Daily attendance is essential for this position.

This is a full-time opportunity working Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week with the work location in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin. Limited travel may be required. The salary for this position is negotiable with benefits including Annual and Personal Leave, Holiday Pay, Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and a 401(k) Retirement Plan. A waiting period applies for Benefits. A background check and drug screen are required before employment. Due to COVID-19, a period of self-isolation may be required if relocating to the area.
Working Relationships and Scope
Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Supervises the accounting staff and any other designated staff. Daily contact with the employees in the same department to manage the overall day-to-day operations. Frequent contact with the CEO, Compliance Officer and Human Resources Director to gather and provide information. Frequent contact with Program Directors and all employees. Ongoing contact with federal and state agencies for purposes of remaining current on various issues.

Demonstrates a friendly and helpful approach and attitude to all internal and external customers; professionalism and commitment to the job.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field required. Master’s degree and CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in business management, preferably within small to mid-size organizations, including five years' supervisory experience. Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or not-for-profit agency desirable. Individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; works effectively under pressure; ability to build positive working relationships with both internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people. Individual must be able to understand and fully explain technical data and information. Must be able to prepare and balance budgets; compose business reports; possess knowledge of labor law; possess knowledge of payroll compliance; and coach and counsel employees.
